KNSA Team Code of Conduct and Player Agreement

The Kevin Nelson Soccer Academy (KNSA) Code of Conduct establishes a clear set of guidelines for coaches, players and parents/guardians.   Our primary goal is to help players achieve personal excellence within a team environment. By abiding by a mandatory code of conduct we ensure that KNSA soccer and development remains fun, positive and an enjoyable experience for all involved.

This Code of Conduct is based on respect and fair play, defined by four basic principles:

  1. Respect for the rules of the game and its governing bodies
  2. Respect for the referees and their decisions
  3. Respect for all participants, including: all players, all coaches, all spectators, and all club officials
  4. Maintaining self-control at all times

It is a condition of continuing KNSA membership that all participants understand and follow this Code of Conduct when participating in any Academy activity.    It is expected that this code be followed at all times, by all direct and extended KNSA members.

Players Conduct and Player Agreement:

(a) Be respectful of the referee and your opponents

(b) Refrain from using foul or abusive language

(c) Remember that you are here to provide a strong performance, and that the result of the match is secondary to its benefit as a development tool

(d) Coaches are there to coach and not to improve a player’s behaviour.  If a player is found to be behaving badly, coaches are permitted to remove the player from the event.   Furthermore, the responsibility of player behaviour outside of team-sanctioned events is not that of team staff but is the responsibility of the player, and of their parent or guardian

Punctuality and Attendance:

  1. Players shall arrive at the pitch 45min-1hr before game time or as specified by team coach
  2. Players shall arrive at the pitch 15 minutes before practice time
  3. Practices are mandatory
  4. Players must have a valid reason for missing a practice or game and must notify the manager and coach prior to the scheduled event.

Consequences:

If for any reason the Code of Conduct/Player Agreement is not followed by the player, any [one or more] of the following steps may be taken by the coach or the Club:

  • Reduce the playing time of the player; and/or
  • Suspend the player for some period of time which covers any [one or more] KNSA events including practices, games, tournaments and/or special events
  • Permanent expulsion from the KNSA Academy team

Parent/Guardian Conduct and Parent Agreement:

(a) Be respectful of the referee and the teams on the field

(b) Refrain from using foul or abusive language

(c) Keep comments positive

(d) Refrain from coaching from the sidelines

(e) Remember that you are here to support your child, not win a game where achieving a result is not the primary objective

(f)  Keep in mind that your attendance at KNSA events is a privilege, not a right, and that the Academy will be held responsible for the behaviour of its fans

(g)  Understand that the leagues can, and will if necessary; suspend our individual privilege to watch our child play should we behave in a manner that is rude or otherwise offensive

(h)  Understand that improper behaviour at a game may result in a parent being asked to leave the field by the referee or a club official so the coach does not receive a yellow card caution or a red card ejection due to the action of the parent spectator

Financial Obligation/Team Fees:

It is important to be reminded of your financial obligation & ensure that every effort be made to pay your fees on time.

  1. KNSA Academy fees are due the 1st of each month. If you cannot meet this financial responsibility, or have questions, please contact the KNSA Administrator at admin@knsa.ca
  2. Other payment due dates will be defined as teams are entered into Leagues, Tournaments. Payments must be made in order for player to participate. If you cannot meet this financial responsibility, or have questions, please contact your team manager as soon as possible.

Parent/Guardian and Coach Disputes

We realize not everyone will see situations in question in the same manner and therefore agree to remain open minded and flexible when discussing items of concern.

If any Parent disagrees with the coaches’ decision or any situation about their child, the parent MUST wait 24 hours after the incident occurred before talking to any Coaches.   If a parent feels they must pursue an issue with a KNSA coach, they are required to do so privately, and in a positive and constructive manner but only after the required waiting period.

Team coach(s), team manager(s) and Academy Staff will not respond to concerns raised anonymously.
